When should you service your boiler?

If you’ve noticed any of the following issues with your boiler, we recommend getting in touch as soon as possible to book a boiler service appointment:

An irregular flame, a yellow flame, new stains or smoke marks on the appliance or nearby, the boiler is overheating or refills on a regular basis, the water pressure drops or the pilot light goes out often.

If your boiler is running well as far as you know, it is still recommended for every boiler to be serviced once a year. This not only guarantees that the heating system is working safely and efficiently but in many cases, it is also a requirement to keep the warranty valid.

Having your boiler serviced is a preventative method to avoid boiler issues and breakdown. If you have noticed your boiler isn’t working efficiently, your radiators have cold spots or are noisy & your water isn’t running as hot as normal, you may need a powerflush service.
A powerflush removes any sludge, rust or other debris, which builds up over time and can block the pipes, reducing the system’s efficiency.
We offer this service at Gas Logics, get in touch to book a powerflush appointment and we will get your boiler back to running at its full capacity.

    What a boiler service involves:

Depending on the type of boiler you have, the service will usually involve our gas safe registered engineer following a comprehensive boiler service checklist to ensure everything is safe, working efficiently and confirm that your boiler still meets current standards and requirements.

A typical boiler service checklist includes:

    1. Visual inspection
Your engineer will visually inspect the boiler. This involves them checking the flame, looking for any corrosion or leaks, and cleaning and adjusting any components as necessary.

    2. Operation and control
Your engineer will test the boiler control and safety devices for correct operation and will also check that all of the boiler functions are working correctly.

    3. Clean the main boiler components
Your engineer will remove the boiler casing and check the main components to ensure everything is working correctly and have no noticeable defects. They will then clean the components and the inside of the boiler. These checks should include the heat exchanger, main burner, main injector, flue ways, ignition pins and spark probe.

    4. Flue check
The flue is the pipe from your boiler to the outside of your house. Your engineer will check there are no obstructions in the flue terminals and that the flue is safely fitted.

    5. Gas pressure check
This will ensure your boiler is working at the correct pressure.

    6. Boiler fired up
At the end of the boiler service, it will be fired up to allow the engineer to check for any working faults. If your engineer is satisfied that your boiler is working safely and efficiently, any controls or settings that were altered during the service will be either put back to your preferred settings or left so that you can easily adjust the settings.

There may be additional checks depending on the type of boiler you have. For example, if you have a condensing boiler, your engineer will also check the drainage system.
